2020 Annual Conference Updates and Information

posted on May 28

Bishop Farr has made the decision to shift our plan for the August 22 Annual Conference to a virtual-only event. Due to the rise of COVID-19 cases across the state, Bishop feels the decision to move to a virtual-only event is the best to help reduce the risk of further spreading the virus.

If you haven't registered yet, please do so. The session begins at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 22 and is expected to last two hours.

During our time together, we will focus on key decisions about our shared work together. You can view the draft agenda www.moacinfo.com.
To prepare for this session, please watch the digital video reports that have been prepared in lieu of our three-day session. You can find all digital reports at our Vimeo Channel.

ANNUAL CONFERENCE SESSION REGISTRATION

Click Here to register for Annual Conference on Saturday, August 22, 2020 10:00 a.m. CDT.

Please register by August 1 so our staff can make sure voting members will have the proper access to the webinar in order to cast your vote. Guests should plan to watch the livestream posted on the Conference's Facebook page. The session will be recorded for later playback.

Members in full connection, provisional members and local pastors who are unable to participate virtually, please submit your request to the Annual Conference Secretary (Para. 602.8). It's a good idea to notify your DS, too

ANNUAL CONFERENCE SESSION VOTING AND VOICE GUIDELINES

Those eligible to vote in an annual conference session are outlined in our voting guide found on pg. 5 of the Annual Conference workbook. Only voting clergy and lay members should register for this annual conference. Guests, including family members, should plan to watch the session from home via the livestream.

Each charge served by more than one clergy member under appointment (including deacons in full connection for whom this is their primary appointment) shall be entitled to as many lay members as there are clergy members under appointment (as of June 5, 2020). Qualifications for lay membership to annual conference can be found in the Book of Discipline paragraph 251.2. Alternate lay members should only plan to attend in the event the lay member to annual conference is unavailable.

CONFERENCE AND AFFILIATED VIDEO REPORTS WILL BE AVAILABLE ON VIMEO

Prepare for the session by accessing digital reports before the August 22 session. We will continue to populate video reports as they come in with the commitment that all reports will be on the Vimeo Channel before July 15.

The entire conference session and Services of Ordination and Commissioning will be recorded and posted following August 22.

SERVICE OF ORDINATION AND SERVICE OF COMMISSIONING

We currently plan to move forward with in-person Ordination (2 p.m.) and Commissioning (4 p.m.) Services at Missouri UMC with limited, invite-only guest attendance and safety precautions including masking and social distancing.

LIVE Q&A ON BUSINESS ITEMS

Two opportunities for live Q&A sessions led by Conference leaders will help answer your questions about specific reports and agenda items prior to August 22. These will cover the same material; you need only attend one:

Q&A Session 1 – Monday, August 17 @ 10 a.m.
or
Q&A Session 2 – Tuesday, August 18 @ 6:00 p.m.
