Northwest District Lay Leaders are hosting 2 fall Meet & Greet Sessions!
The Northwest District Lay Leaders would love to interact and hear from you! We invite you to join us for a Meet & Greet session! The 2 sessions are being held on 9/23 (First Maryville UMC) or 10/21 (Harrisonville UMC) from 10 am – 12 pm. These events will also be available for virtual attendance. The main agenda topics are “How to put on a Lay Ministry Fair” and news regarding the Absorb platform. A sign-up link will be shared in the September District Newsletter.
Have you heard about Absorb, the new online learning platform?
Absorb is the new online learning platform for laity and clergy! We encourage you to spend some time and connect to Absorb! You can sign up for online classes - and complete the course in your window of available time - at midnight, or 3 am – or at 9 am or 2 pm – whatever fits your schedule! If your availability is interrupted, you can pause the training class and come back to it as time allows. Where possible, classes have been pre-recorded and redesigned to be accomplished in shorter time spans. Please spend a few minutes and visit the following website: https://www.moumethodist.org/absorb where you will find videos and instructions to sign up for your own Absorb account as well as the link to connect to the Absorb platform. The course content is well-crafted, and the site is easy to use! New classes have recently been added including “UMC Heritage”, “Preaching for Lay Education” and “Biblical Interpretation”.
There are multiple grants available through the moumethodist.org website! Grant details and the link to apply are available online – and the Conference is urging churches to apply for more than 1 grant! Several of the grants have an application submission deadline of September 30!!
Boots on the Ground Ministry!
22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.
Let’s be DOERS OF THE WORD!
As Christians called to care for the least, the lost, abandoned, and the forgotten, we will explore ways to help and impact all God’s needy Children. I am so excited that we have embraced the “Boots on the Ground” Ministry concept in the Northwest District of the Missouri Annual UMC. This year we are blessed to be in partnership with the Missouri United Methodist Foundation to provide an opportunity for Clergy and Laity to see God’s handiwork up close and personal. We are grateful for the sponsorship that gave us a close and personal look at the Flourish Furniture Bank. The event occurred at Flourish Furniture at 11971 Grandview Road, Grandview, Missouri, at 9 am on Monday, June 26th. This is a warehouse location. MUMF Introduced your churches to mission opportunities through Kansas City’s only Furniture Bank! This occurred on Monday, June 26 th, from 9-10:30 am at Flourish Furniture Bank. They learned more about how your church can make an impact in providing household furnishings to those on the margins in Kansas City. Flourish Furniture Bank is the only non-profit furniture bank in Kansas City and the only agency offering an entire home of furniture and furnishings for individuals who have experienced being unhoused due to various challenging circumstances. To best serve the community, Flourish partners with nearly 80 social service areas who refer their clients for these services. Due to the variety of our partner agencies, Flourish serves individuals who have experienced domestic violence, refugees, young adults aging out of foster care, individuals who have been incarcerated, those that have experienced extreme poverty and job loss, individuals having disabilities, and many more circumstances. While each story is unique, all have been unhoused, and Flourish comes alongside each of them as they enter the housing and a new phase of their life. Visit, learn more, and see our woodworking and sewing spaces, where our volunteers help create a space where compassion meets sustainability.
If you and your team are ready to make a greater impact on the lives of God’s Children, please reach out to me for volunteering options. Dr. Yvette Richards @ firstname.lastname@example.org.

Please join us in the following Prayer – from the book “Prayers from The Water’s Edge” by Craig Finnestad:
May I be forgiven and forgiving.
Loved and loving.
A recipient of grace and a giver of grace.
Patient, kind, humble and balanced.
May others see You through me.
